Small Batch Gravel
Objective
The main objective at Backshop Bikes is to deliver high quality gravel cycling experiences in southeast Colorado and northeast New Mexico. We believe Far Quarter Gravel is some of the best terrain in the world to ride, and aim to show people why responsibly. One of the most effective ways to achieve this goal is by simply encouraging small batch gravel rides. Promoting low impact cycling will help ensure we preserve the rural quality of life that makes the riding here so attractive.
Origin
Our small batch gravel movement kicked off in part as a result of the 2020 pandemic and all the social changes associated with it. Large group rides and events of recent years are suddenly no longer the exclusive model to success in cycling tourism. The crowds are dispersing and seeking out new territory to ride. Far Quarter Gravel is one of those places where a small batch experience can be crafted around responsible adventure travel.
Responsibility
Backshop Bikes realizes that simply because there are over 1,600 miles of remote backcountry roads to curate adventure rides, gravel camps, and special events, doesn’t mean we should push larger size groups into that space. Small batch gravel is all about exploring and sharing in scaled numbers. Traffic, air quality, and the local economy will all benefit through a smaller is better based approach to cycling tourism.
